THE ACTOR OF LE-GARDIENE
BEN (Benny Wong Thong Hou) is a native of Malacca. It was revealed in an interview with Gempak that Ben’s birthday was on 11 Nov 1980. According to MOFA’s introduction, Ben made his debut in the comics magazine Utopia [a rock music/manga magazine published in Malay] in 2002. A year later, he joined the Art Square Group as a comic artist. His published works “Innocent”, “Naive”, and “The Fishes”. The Malay-version of “Le.Gardenie” and “Fatal Chaos” are currently serialised in the “Utopia” and “Gempak” respectively. The Chinese-version of “Le.Gardenie” is available in the monthly “Comics King” (漫画王).
SYNOPSIS
“Orange is a 15 year old boy who shares a wisecracking friendship with a perky young girl named Kiwi. When the new school term starts in spring, Orange finds himself instantly falling for the smart and attractive Apple. But when the bewitchingly beautiful Lemon shows up, Orange’s heart starts to pull him in both directions at the same time. And as Kiwi worries about what’s becoming of Orange, cracks begin to show in their friendship…”

This is Kiwi, a tom-boyish girl who likes to dress in guys’ clothes. She’s Orange’s osananajime (幼馴染/Chinese: 青梅竹马) – his childhood companion and playmate. Now, Kiwi and Orange are high school mates. First moé factor.

And Orange is the shujinkou (主人公/protagonist) of “Le.Gardenie”. He’s a wuss who gets bullied by the a bunch of rich-kid seniors (who seem to take after the four guys in “Hana yori Dango” (花より男子). Kiwi would usually come to his rescue. But in one encounter, this royal-looking blond-hair chick intervened….
